We are an independent food bank and operate within the Bassetlaw area and surrounding villages. We receive referrals from our partners who identify the need for emergency food parcels. An emergency food parcel is sufficient for 7 days for each person in the household and we provide more compact parcels for those dealing with homelessness. We also run a subsidised Fruit & Veg' box scheme where we provide those on means tested benefits a box full of healthy food worth £16 for £4 making it affordable and accessible as our volunteer drivers deliver the boxes. Additionally we have a social eating Lunch Club held at The Harworth & Bircotes Town Council where we provide a hot healthy two course meal for £3, offering individuals a chance to get out the house and socialise whilst having a good meal at a low price. We run the Bassetlaw Community Shop which was established in response to the cost-of-living crisis. The aim is to support the rural areas of Bassetlaw which are disproportionately affected by the increased cost of food, fuel, energy bills etc. We over over 50 lines of cupboard staples, essential toiletries and cleaning products, nappies and fresh produce in a low-price model.

Bassetlaw Food Bank was established as a charity in 2013. We operate as an emergency service providing food parcels to those dealing with food insecurity in the Bassetlaw area. As a small charity we rely heavily on volunteers, donations from individuals and local companies and grants where possible. We support individuals and families, including children. Over the past 10 years the charity has seen an increase in need for our services in Bassetlaw, and particularly when the pandemic fully hit in 2020 we saw a significant increase in the necessity for food parcels. The reasons for falling on hard times varies - an emergency vet or vehicle bill, loss of job, debt, delayed benefits payments or payments that can only cover rent and bills are just a few of these. It is our goal to provide service users with 7 days worth of food, including fresh fruit and vegetables where possible, in a dignified and respectful way. As a non-profit small charity we rely on funding from donations and grants which allow us to fulfil our purpose and keep the charity doing essential support work in the community.
