Basics Essex Accident Rescue Service

RCN 1142313, Chelmsford

BASICS provides immediate medical care in support of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The scheme operates across Essex and provides trained and equipped Doctors and Paramedics to respond to emergency calls. All the clinicians have undergone additional training to their base medical qualification to provide advanced care to any patient that is ill or injured within the county.

Basics Essex Accident Rescue Service

We are volunteer doctors and paramedics specially trained to provide advanced life saving pre-hospital care.  We work with the Ambulance Service to deliver skilled medical help to those seriously ill  or injured in Essex and surrounding areas.

We receive no statutory funding and therefore rely solely on public donations.  All the equipment carried by our members and the training they undergo is funded through our own publicity and fundraising.

In 2021 BASICS Essex volunteers were dispatched to 116 incidents

  • 35 Road traffic crashes
  • 30 cardiac arrests
  • 27 Other trauma calls (including stabbings/shootings/burns/falls from height)
  • 24 Other medical calls
