Barons Court Project

RCN 296034, London

For 35 years, Barons Court Project has operated a drop-in centre supporting vulnerable adults who are homeless or living in poverty with mental health difficulties. Many of our guests lack even the most basic needs provision and support, and the majority suffer from social isolation, made all the worse by Covid-19. We are the only drop-in centre of our kind in Hammersmith and Fulham, offering a safe space for respite and recovery, connecting our guests to the community, reducing isolation, and providing opportunities for self-development and participation.

Sadly, over the last 6 months, we have seen demand for the support and services we provide at our centre steadily increase as more people find themselves in need of help. That same period has seen the ending of both the ‘Everyone In’ scheme and the ban on evictions, as well as universal credit being cut by £20, all while the cost of living is soaring for many people. According to Shelter, as of December 2021, a shocking 1 in 53 people in London now have nowhere to call home. While the past two years have been very difficult for everyone, they have been especially challenging for those on the lowest incomes and on the edges of society.

We want to provide safety net for those who have found themselves in desperate circumstances, and a place that feels like home for those without a home and for those who don’t feel at home in themselves. We will meet the practical needs of our guests by providing showers, laundry facilities, meals, clothes and toiletries. We will offer group activities, including arts & crafts classes, physical activities sessions, employability workshops and wellbeing support groups, to promote self-development and a sense of community. We will also provide one-to-one support around mental and physical wellbeing, employment, accommodation and access to other services. Our ambition is to help our guests to reach a point of confidently managing their own circumstances and wellbeing.

We expect to help more than 500 people in the coming year but we need your help. Please consider supporting our work - a gift of any size will help to ensure that people in desperate circumstances can get the help that they need.
