It is far worse than a dog's life for so many dogs in Romania. Every day, man's best friend faces at best indifference, and at worst persecution and extreme cruelty. Barking Mad Dog Rescue is a UK registered charity which throws a lifeline for dogs who have nobody, through providing sanctuary, food and veterinary care in Constanta district, Eastern Romania.
We have our own main shelter and also a smaller shelter in the village where we operate. The smaller shelter is at our little house in the village where most of the pups, oldies and small dogs live. The main shelter has grown organically as dogs have come under our wing: abandoned dogs, pregnant females, victims of road traffic accidents.
We run regular spaying campaigns and are gradually changing minds and hearts in the local community. We now have a network of kind people in the village who alert us to dogs in need. We provide education on dog welfare for owners locally and are somewhere to turn for those whose dogs need the vet but can't afford to access them.
Fundraising needs to be ongoing and vital. We can't do this alone.
