Aim: Events curated for Brighton's Black community annually, aimed at improving lives & experiences & tackling anti-Black racism - better futures

BARCO is a new group set up to challenge anti-Black racism and to meet the needs of Black people, living, working, studying and visiting Brighton and Hove, celebrate Black culture, history and achievements. Over the last 2 and a half years we have delivered the following events:

BARCO brainstormerz - provides opportunities for members of the community to come together (online) and discuss an issue that is relevant to the lives and experiences of Black people. We discuss how the topic impacts us and what solutions can be implemented to improve our lives and experiences in society. Topics included education, employment, health and housing.

BARCO BASH - a community festival celebrating joy within the Black community with diverse performances, spoken word, singers, musicians and dj's. Information stalls from Black community organisations and Black local businesses - food and books.

BARCO Tea & Talk sessions - a monthly space open to members of the Black community to get together and talk about how we can develop BARCO and activities to ensure we continue to support the needs of this community.

BARCO Dominoes & Vinyl Club - A monthly space targeting Black elders and families a space where people can come together, socialise, meet new friends and take part in a traditional cultural activity.

BARCO - Black networking Event. We are currently planning to host and curate a networking event for Black professionals, creatives and students in June 2022, this will be the latest addition to our events calendar to fulfil an area advised to us by our community.

We are seeking funding to enable us to continue to deliver these events in 2022
