In June 2024, I will be part of a team of 10 from Mott MacDonald and Balfour Beatty who will be putting our engineering skills to the test and volunteering with Bridges to Prosperity, a non-profit organisation dedicated to building footbridges in remote areas.
We will be heading to a small rural village in Rutsiro, Rwanda to construct a vital footbridge footbridge over the Kaziranomo River connecting the Nyarubuye and Rebero communities.
During this project, we will work with the locals to construct the bridge and provide them with the necessary skills, knowledge and tools so they can maintain the bridge for years to come. This bridge build will provide safe all-year-round access to the local community, ensuring they can reach schools, healthcare facilities, and markets regardless of the unpredictable weather conditions and alleviating the need for treacherous river crossings.
In preparation for this upcoming project, we are raising £25 000 to cover the logistical and equipment-related costs for the bridge build and any additional funds will be used to buy supplies for the local schools such as notebooks, pens, and sports equipment.
Your support is greatly appreciated and will help us fund the construction and provide a lasting positive impact on the community which will foster sustainable development and enhance the overall prosperity of its residents.
