Who are we?
Alford Squash Club ('the Club') was established in 1978 by a group of local volunteers who, after much research and fundraising, secured a Lease from East Lindsey District Council and the
fund raising paid for the building to be built on the site at Millers Way. The Club comprises two playing courts, separate mens and ladies changing rooms (with toilets and showers) and an upstairs seating area and viewing balcony.
Since the Club was built it has been at the heart of the town providing a sports facility that is open to the whole community regardless of ability or age with a modest annual subscription of £30 for adults and just £10 per year for junior members.
Since the Club's inception in 1978 it has always been run and managed by volunteers as a not for profit organisation. The Club is (and has been for many years) a registered Community Amateur Sports Club with HMRC meaning its members will not benefit financially from membership or if the Club was disbanded for whatever reason.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The changing rooms and shower facilities have not been upgraded for 40 years and therefore we need to upgrade the toilet, showers and changing room facilities
How we’ll spend the money raised
It will be spent on replastering and painting the walls.
Tiling and new toilets and shower systems.
It is essential that these facilities are upgraded as we will be offering various programmes throughout the year to facilitate sports as a means to combate mental health.
Community impact
Alford Squash Club does not have the financial resources to carry out and fund the work detailed in this submission itself. However, with grant funding of a relatively modest sum, we can secure the Club's long term future as a small, friendly sports facility open to all of the community in an area of significant deprivation. The Club has a proud history of attracting junior members as well as senior members (and all age groups in between) and with enhanced facilities we can take the Club to the next level.
There is real appetite for squash and racquetball in our area and with upgraded court facilities we will be able to enhance the playing experience. There is a real "buzz" around the Club but we need to improve the playing facilities now.
