Atypical Community

Aim: Atypical Community CIC is a social enterprise based in London UK. We aim to provide opportunities for underserved groups or individuals.

Atypical was formed in 2024 after winning the innovation award at Trinity Laban since then Atypical has organized events and workshops, specifically designed for students and newly graduated individuals. To support industry development, we provide networking events, portfolio creation, and Job opportunities.

We are a community of artists supporting artists and are constantly seeking opportunities and ways to grow our network. 

With the Launch of our Online platform and Newly founded non-profit organization Atypical Community CIC, we have decided it is a perfect time to launch various projects to support industry development and provide an accessible platform for underserved communities. 

Atypical Community will provide for and support a variety of individuals, in our first twelve months, we aspire to offer affordable classes, workshops, and programs to...  

• Children and families from underserved backgrounds. 
• Young performers and creatives seeking accessible pathways into professional experience/ Emerging creatives seeking accessible training and expression platforms.
• Schools and community centers in need of creative programming.
• Community members who are at risk of isolation or inactivity. 
• Children and adults with additional needs or mental impairment. 

Our Founder Shannon Mairead formed the CIC alongside her existing company Atypical Creative Ltd. To provide access for early career performers to support the development of the performing arts sector, as well as ensuring equal opportunities are provided to these individuals at the start of their careers. 

Atypical Community CIC is at the very start of its journey leading with our first project 'Your Move' by Atypical a movement program for children. At Your Move, children decide what they learn — from moves and music to themes and games. It’s a fun, supportive space where creativity takes center stage, and every idea is welcome. Our aim with this project is to offer affordable classes in London for children who love performing but maybe haven't found or had an opportunity to find a specific avenue to explore. 

'Your Move' by Atypical is just one example of the many projects we will be navigating within our first year. As a non-profit, we invest all surplus back into these projects to support their development and growth.
