To help individuals learn to cook in ways which promote prevention against the impacts of climate change and lead to positive well-being
by Tony Osy in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Here at Leithland Neighbourhood Centre, we believe that learning good culinary practices will benefit individuals, not only in learning how to cook healthy and nutritious meals, but in cost management and understanding the impacts food waste has on the environment. Our trained chef not only teaches the best cooking methods for the tastiest recipes but also provides information on how to buy foods that can be used in more than one meal and that can be meal prepped for future use. Our classes are held in our fully equipped on-site kitchen, supervised by our fully trained chef, who offers step by step instructions on how to prepare and cook a variety of different meals, catering to different tastes and dietary requirements.
Learning the best methods to make your shopping budget stretch further is something that, during a cost of living crisis, everyone should and will benefit from. Our chef shows the best and cheapest produce to buy to make healthy, delicious, and satisfying meals that will feed your family and contribute to other meals throughout the week. Forward planning is key to successfully purchasing only what you need and ensuring that nothing is wasted and that people are getting great value for their money and reducing their waste levels.
The money raised will allow us to ensure that we reach as many people within our community who would like to learn how small changes in how they plan their meals, buy their produce, and cook their meals will greatly improve their budget. Alongside teaching people how to cook delicious home-made meals that don't cost a lot, don't take much time and can feed a large family, they will also increase their knowledge of how they can contribute to tackling climate change and how to become more self-sufficient in growing and producing their own ingredients.
