To set up a Aquaponic Garden that can feed the local community in exchange for volunteering their time to maintain the growing system

by James Michael Lyall in Southampton, England, United Kingdom

Aquapoinc gardening is a low-cost easy set up close water system self-sustaining system where fish waste fertilizes plants, and plants filter water for the fish.1742475149_1000001081.png

Fish waste, rich in nutrients, is converted by beneficial bacteria into plant-available nutrients.

Plants absorb these nutrients from the water, effectively filtering and purifying it.

The cleaned water is then returned to the fish tank, creating a closed-loop system.

Sustainable and eco-friendly: Aquaponics uses less water than conventional farming and reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Aquaponic systems can be set up in small spaces, making them ideal for urban gardening or backyard food production.

With proper planning and management, aquaponic systems can produce fresh food throughout the year.

Fish: Tilapia, koi, goldfish, carp, catfish, and barramundi

You can grow more food in a smaller area by using stack system. Please see pictures and videos for examples

Can grow a variety of food such as Lettuce, pak choi, kale, basil, mint, watercress, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage can all be grown in aquaponic systems.

Appropriate fish and plants will be selected for Vietnam.

The construction of the system can be utilise recycled materials. Metrials will consist of a fish tank, grow beds, and plumbing components. And using gravity and a ram pump to move water.

Allowing beneficial bacteria to colonize the system before introducing fish and plants.

Monitoring and maintenance: Regularly check water parameters, feed the fish, and maintain the system to ensure optimal conditions.

This will will be taught to the locals whom this will benefit.

I have contacted community leaders that will work with me to find sites around the city to construct these system, yes more than one.

Updates will be Regularly posted as will the link for them that will go live from the start of the project.

Vietnam unfortunately is suffering adverse poverty and I’m hoping to reduce the need for food with this project.

Please see the videos and pictures to see examples and potential of this system of growing large amounts of food in small areas at minimal cost
