At Alumah, we are deeply committed to supporting anyone who has experienced relationship (domestic) abuse, regardless of race or gender. We understand that the effects of abuse run deep, shaping how survivors see themselves, their relationships, and the world around them for years to come. Our mission is to walk alongside our clients as they heal—not just to recover from trauma, but to rebuild confidence, self-worth, and a sense of empowerment. Through our services, we help individuals recognise unhealthy patterns, develop resilience, and gain the awareness needed to break free from the cycle of abuse. At Alumah, it’s about more than survival—it’s about thriving. We’re here to ensure that no one walks this journey alone, offering support, understanding, and the tools for lasting change.

Male Survivor
"…only support service that truly understood what I was going through.
It was such a relief to know I wasn’t alone. Throughout the course, I’ve had so many moments of realisation—looking back at things and finally understanding, yes, that was abuse. Things I dismissed or normalised before now stand out clearly.
I’m still coming to terms with how deeply this has affected me, and I know healing won’t be quick. But I also know that I’m on the right path. While I’ll always have ties to my ex because of our son, things are better now, and I believe they’ll continue to improve.
I just wish there were more spaces like this for men. This course has been life-changing.”
The Urgent Need for Expansion
Domestic abuse has devastating effects, particularly on adolescents. Survivors face higher risks of substance abuse, eating disorders, and repeat victimization. Teenage girls who experience physical or sexual abuse are six times more likely to become pregnant and twice as likely to contract STIs. In extreme cases, the trauma leads to suicidal ideation, underscoring the critical need for intervention.
Alumah has already made a profound impact in West Suffolk, but the demand for our services continues to grow. To support more victims and prevent further harm, we need to expand our programs. With additional resources, we can provide life-changing support to more individuals, particularly vulnerable adolescents, and help break the cycle of abuse.
No one should walk this journey alone. Together, we can make a difference.
