The Genesis
Having worked for the University of Dub for over twenty years as a dance promoter, and representing University of Dub as a Roots Reggae selector, as well as selecting for various London based sound systems. Steven Joseph decided to build his own sound system, whose main mission would be to spread the teachings of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I.
Thus ALL TONE ROCKERS Sound System the Dub Promoter arrives on the scene, playing strictly Roots music for the massive.
The Mission
Since it’s conception ALL TONE ROCKERS sound has been playing a monthly session at Brixtonia Lounge, in the heart of Brixton in London. Attendance of these events is increasing each month, as the popularity of this sound system is growing and so larger venues are on the horizon.
At present we don’t have enough equipment to play bigger venues. I recently invested £400 on four bass speakers, and now need an amplifier big enough to power them, a Crest 8001 would be ideal.
We also need mid range speakers, (3 low mid and 3 high mid) and tops to complete the speaker stack. Additional amplifiers will be needed to power these.
Finally we are also planning to run a workshop format to take into local schools, colleges, and youth centres, with the intention to engage local young people, and get them interested in sound system culture and history.
Sound system can help develop youths self confidence and give them a sense of purpose and direction, it also provides a connection to their cultural history. Sound system culture helps also to foster unity, even across different generations within the community.
