All About Newtown CIC manages and operates All About Newtown, a community information website which provides high quality information and aims to promote the amazing, diverse town of Newtown in Mid Wales and the surrounding area.

Our website focuses on:

  • High quality, ad-free news and latest issue reporting. Utilising reporting from community reporters, BBC Local Democracy Reporter and more, we aim to report the hidden stories from around our area.
  • Promoting local events - with our community events calendar, we aim to provide a centralised place for all local activities and events so local residents and visitors can find things to do, visit and see.
  • Business Promotion - we host and maintain a local business directory, allowing local businesses to share promotions and offers, promote their local offering and provide information to visitors and residents.
  • Explore Newtown - we provide information on things to do, visit and see, along with information on how to get around our town and local area using public transport.
  • Tools - we maintain a host of tools to help save time and money. Our local fuel finder automatically checks local fuel prices, our upcoming roadworks list aims to educate those travelling and save them time. We also have tools for Council Tax Spend and much more.

As a not-for-profit community interest company, you can be confident that every penny raised by All About Newtown is reinvested back into the community.

At the moment, the majority of our revenue comes from start up capital. We don't offer advertising as we don't want to detract from our news articles, but have plans to expand into 'advertorials', a mixture of an editorial and advertising which will not fill your screen with banner ads.

Our Ambition

But we want to be able to do more than just keep our nose above the water.

As well as celebrating all the good things happening in our communities, we want to be able to campaign on your behalf. We want to have your back when the chips are down and to be able to ask the tough questions to those in power. Without a local publisher to hold power to account, who is there to support our communities?

It is to our constant frustration that we see matters of concern raised in our communities, our help asked for, but find we don't currently have the resources to support those who contact us, and as a result, those concerns often go unanswered. We also know through experience that when we do get involved, those in power sit up and take notice.

How you can help

Just take a look at the numbers who read our site on a daily or weekly basis.

Our site reached over 1 million article views in 2023 and in 2024, we're on target to exceed this. Just imagine if every reader donated £1!

Local news is a vital asset for any community. Ask those who live in news deserts. Not only do people living in news deserts have next to no idea what's going on in their community, but community groups, local charities, local clubs and businesses have very little way of sharing what they are doing, and certainly don't have the ability to reach every family in every home. The knock-on effect can be devastating - not just for community groups and businesses, but also for your local democracy.

Yet £1 a year can not only stop that from happening, it can ensure it never happens to your community.

Support us in June, during Indie News Week or any other time in the month, with a donation of just £1 and you'll be helping us to support you in the long term.
