Beginnings

Alexander started his singing career as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, recording the solos in the MacMillan Tenebrae Responsories for Hyperion label in his final year.1718643686_crop.png He began composing at Ampleforth College and then studied Music at the University of Manchester. After a two year lay clerkship at St John’s College Choir, Cambridge, he moved to London to embark on a freelance career as a choral singer, soloist and composer.

Career So Far 

Alexander regularly sings for choirs such as Tenebrae and Westminster Abbey Choir, performing in high profile events such as the coronation of King Charles III. As a soloist, he has performed on recorded projects for S1718643256_picture1.pngt John’s College Choir, along with step-out solos at venues such as the Barbican and Royal Festival Hall.

He performed the Mahler Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with Westminster Opera,1718644333_crop_2.png and he has also sung roles in Opera, including La Traviata, La Bohème, L’elisir d’amore, and most recently, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro.In 2020, he co-founded Coro Spezzato, a choir which aims to promote new composers and give a platform to young professional singers. As a composer, Alexander has had multiple choral works broadcast on BBC Radio 3, along with music commissioned, performed, and recorded by St John’s College Choir on their 2023 album New Millenium. In September he starts an MA at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Alexander Ashworth.

By giving to this fundraiser you will be helping a young musician to achieve his ambitions. A masters degree like this one gives invaluable training and is crucial to giving a platform from which to build a long and successful career. It costs £14,000 per year to be on this two-year course. The Academy have generously offered a scholarship, but I am still I am still some way from being able to pay for this life-changing education. Support through this crowd funder will make all the difference.
