AIM Northwest is a domestic abuse charity working to support those impacted by domestic abuse and working proactively to prevent incidence of abuse occurring. We provide support to men, women and children.
1 in 7 men are predicted to experience domestic abuse, yet there are very few, if any, safe accommodation for men who are victims of domestic abuse. This lack of resources leaves many men without a safe place to turn to in times of crisis.
We are aiming to open safe accommodation for men experiencing domestic abuse.
Safe accommodation for men will offer not just a roof over a mans heads but also access to essential services such as counselling, legal advice, and support. Holistic support will help men rebuild their lives and recover from trauma. Domestic abuse against men is often underreported and men reporting feeling stigmatised.
It is important that we ensure that men have access to the same support services as, we must promote gender equality and acknowledges that domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of gender. Knowing that there are safe place available can encourage more men to come forward and seek help, which is a crucial step in breaking the cycle of abuse.
