At Age UK Reading we are passionate about helping older people live their best lives.
Befriending
Loneliness is the reality for many aging people in our community - we help by personally matching befrienders with befriendees so that otherwise lonely people have someone to talk to on a regular basis, either in person or on the telephone.
Information and Advice
We run a dedicated telephone service giving information and advice for elderly people and can help and advise for all sorts of situations, whether it be signposting to a relevant service, advising on what kind of benefits might be available or telling people about our own services that they might want to try.
Carers' Information and Advice
We understand that caring for someone is not always easy and we have a dedicated advisor that can help with the challenges that may arise.
Happy Feet
Our popular toenail cutting service for those who struggle to cut their own toenails. 30 minute appointments with one of our friendly, professionally trained nail cutters are available in various locations around Reading.
Dementia Club
We currently have four dedicated weekly clubs based on MCST for those living with dementia. MCST stands for maintenance cognitive stimulation therapy and is a longer term option compared to the time-limited CST course that is offered on the NHS to people diagnosed with dementia. We limit the space available at these clubs so that everyone gets the care and attention they need, with activities planned in advance by our friendly and engaging facilitators and we provide a light lunch provided too.
STAR Club
STAR stands for stimulation, therapeutic, activity and respite, these lunch club sessions are comprised of a mix of sensory, cognitive and physical activities to make our members feel part of the group, and to get them involved.
Pop In
We have regular information sessions and speakers as well as the usual friendly chat over drinks and biscuits. We also have singing, activities, bingo, crafts and occasional speakers. Anyone aged 50 or over is welcome to Pop-In!
