We are thrilled to announce that we've completed principal photography for Afterglow on June 28, 2024, after a whirlwind week of filming. This achievement was made possible thanks to the Bournemouth Film School Funding Futures scheme, a collaboration with virtual production outfit CUBE Studio, and the dedication of a BAFTA and Oscar-winning Executive Producer who believes in us and the story we want to tell. However, our journey is far from over! With pre-production and production now behind us, we need your support to get this film to the finish line.
Afterglow is a labor of love, created by a dedicated team passionate about storytelling and representation. We are now reaching out to our community for support to help us complete this dream of ours. Your contribution will go directly towards the budget, ensuring that "Afterglow" receives the professional polish it deserves. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to sharing this important story with the world. Thank you for considering supporting our film.
Afterglow is a non-linear drama that delves into the pivotal moments of Tarak's life, moments before tragedy strikes. The introspective short film explores themes of legacy and fatherhood through science-fiction elements and poses the question - what do we leave for the world after we are no longer here?
"As creatives, we often ponder on our legacy and the impact our work will have on future generations. Growing up, I never knew my grandfathers, yet their presence was palpable through the stories and values of those around me. My father, with his unwavering yet gentle and compassionate nature, provided a stable and nurturing environment. He exemplified the kind of father I aspire to be. This personal journey, combined with my passion for science fiction, inspired me to create Afterglow. Science fiction has always been the cornerstone of my filmmaking, allowing me to let my imagination soar and build new worlds and futures. Through Afterglow, I aim to explore generational legacies that transcend the boundaries of our world, illustrating that family values will remain steadfast both on Earth and among the stars."
The core team have been earning their stripes in the industry for the last few years. Our Producer Anjishnu Noor Purnota has been Production Secretary on The Apprentice for the last two years, and Production Designer Athena Papworth has just added Deadpool & Wolverine to her already impressive CV. Afterglow's Director of Photography Olivia Morrison has recently shot an H&M commercial featuring global hit artist RAYE and football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Writer-Director Arvind Jay has been cutting his teeth in the production and development arena and serves as Production Manager and Development Producer across a slate of cross-cultural Film & TV projects at 108 Media.
It's been surreal to reunite with so many of our friends on this film and we are beyond proud to return to our alma mater Bournemouth Film School as part of their Funding Futures program. We couldn't have done it without the support of this amazing, dedicated, and insanely talented team. The graduating batch of 2024 from the university are an excellent bunch and it's been a genuine pleasure to work with them.
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to our family, our friends, Bournemouth Film School, CUBE Studio, and our Executive Producer Kevin McGrath, for their support so far, and their belief and trust in us and our project. We're on the brink of something special and we need one final push to get us over the line. We would greatly appreciate any contribution you can make and we're excited for more people to be a part of this journey.
