Help us bring back the much loved Addington Street Fair!

by Disappearing Dining Club in Ramsgate, Kent, United Kingdom

Existing and new members of Addington Street Community Group and Businesses have created a new Team to bring back the ‘Addington Street Revival Fair’ on Sunday 1st September 2024. We pledge to recreate this positive, much loved and supported community event, that was the largest ‘street fair’ in the South East. It really does have something for everyone, it’s a free family fun day, but we need your HELP to make it happen. Increasing costs post pandemic mean finance is now our biggest barrier, so please could you donate, every £ will us cover essential event costs.

History of the Addington Street Fair

Addington Street Fair has a long history that can be traced back to the Napoleonic Wars when Georgian Housing was built for Officers on the Westcliff the Fair became an annual event. After the Second World War the Addington Street Fair proved an effective way to provide funds for food and coal for the homeless Londoners who had nowhere else to go. From the 1980’s it became a popular Historical Fair celebrating the rich heritage of the street and town. It further evolved into the Addington Street Revival Fair in 2015, expanding onto Spencer Square and Nelson Crescent, creating ‘something for everyone’. The new Team of locals is committed to re-starting this long tradition of an Addington Street Fair in 2024.

Aim of the Addington Street Fair

To bring people together for a day of fun and happiness as well as showcase the uniqueness of Addington Street and the surrounding area including its community, heritage, independent businesses and shops offering food, drink and entertainment unique gifts, as well as a creative quarter of painters, potter, musicians and poets.

Purpose of the Funding

Post lockdown there was a substantial increase in many of the costs for necessary services including insurance, the road closure, First Aid provision, additional toilets facilities alongside the additional cost of suspending a number of parking pays on Nelson Crecent and Addition Street itself. In addition, entertainment form an important part of the Fair which also needs to be funded. Income is generated through the sale of stall pitches and via small grant applications but there is now an increased short-fall and so we hope donations will help solve this financial dilemma.
