Who are we?
Founded in 1943, Tír na nÓg CLG Portadown is a community-based volunteer organisation promoting Gaelic Games activities for over 600 members. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is Ireland’s largest sporting organisation and it is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations in the world. The GAA is soon to amalgamate with Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA). We at Tír na nÓg are pleased to be a One Club model celebrating inclusivity and diversity and providing sport for all. The GAA & LGFA are fully committed to the principles of inclusion and diversity at all levels
Tír na nÓg has 22 teams catering for boys and girls, men and women from age 4 to over 40. This level of activity has a huge positive impact on our members in terms of physical health and also their mental and emotional health.
The club and it’s volunteers plays a very significant role in our community, not just on the football field, but through our wider community engagement, health and well-being and cultural initiatives. We are based in a very diverse community and our club aims to provide opportunities for all with a strong focus in recent years on delivering programmes and promoting inclusivity.
We have developed close links with our local primary and secondary schools with our current membership consisting of boys and girls from over 15 schools.
Over the past number of years we have carried out a lot of development work at our club facilities including:
- Changing room complex with ladies changing rooms
- Community club gym, perimeter fencing,
- 150 seater stand with wheelchair provision.
Why are we crowdfunding?
In line with our new Club Strategic Plan, Tír na nÓg CLG aims to develop a number of new and innovative initiatives to widen the sporting opportunities we currently provide. We aim to increase participation in games and offer a fun, healthy, social outlet for all abilities to the games. Provide an environment where the community can connect or re-connect people with their local Gaelic club and allow opportunities for everyone in the community to get involved with the games. This will allow all participants the opportunity to develop their skills and team play in a safe and control environment.
Club For All 2025 will aim to deliver a number of new and innovative initiatives to re-energise our community with the focus being on inclusion and active opportunities for all. Initiatives will include:
- GAA Games For All providing participation opportunities for people with disabilities.
- 4 week taster programme for young boys and girls focusing on those from ethnic minorities.
- Mini Games for boys and girls from aged 7 to 12.
- Gaelic for Mothers and Others focusing on women aged over 25.
- GAA Lads and Dads for men aged over 35.
This will encourage more people to get involved from the wider community to improve physical and mental wellbeing as a collective.
