How many of us have been around these past weeks and seen a disposable mask floating in a puddle or a few odd plastic gloves tossed in hedges? Our plastic waste was already a problem, and now we are all using a lot more single use plastics for infection control. I think I might have a solution;
Terracycle are a company that recycle waste which is normally sent to landfill. They have a number of different collection boxes and one of those is for PPE, gloves, disposable masks, even hairnets and (unsoiled) personal care accessories.
I would love to get a few boxes to put in public locations around Frome, so that people can drop off their PPE in a proper designated place.
I think not only could this help with the problem of this new, extra litter but with setting a good precedent for a future where we don't just throw our rubbish away but actually think about what happens to it.
