Building good skills in reading and writing to improve the future lives of all children and young people.

At Achievement for All, we know that introducing all children and young people to the habit of reading in everyday life can improve communications skills and brighten future prospects, unlocking new worlds and possibilities.

This has never been more important that during the pandemic and lockdown when evidence shows that the majority of children and young people have lost months of good reading and writing.

To support all children and young people, Achievement for All is proud to announce our 2021 Reading and Writing Challenge.

The Challenge is in two parts:

The David Gandy 200 Million Minutes Reading Challenge

On Thursday 4th March 2021 Achievement for All will launch the annual reading challenge across the globe to attempt to read for 200 MILLION MINUTES!

In 2019, the 100 Million Minutes Challenge reached 490,000 people and saw young people read for a staggering 140,000,000 minutes.

The 2021 challenge will run from World Book Day (Thursday 4th March 2021), until Children’s Book Day (Wednesday 31st March 2021). During which time we are calling on schools, settings, families, libraries, community groups, businesses and organisations from across the world to come together to help us achieve this never-before-reached target!

Wonder Words Prize for Young Writers 2021

Achievement for All and Joffre White have launched the Wonder Words Prize for Young Writers 2021.

Our Ambassador and renowned author Joffre White says:

Writing down words to express your feelings, thoughts and ideas is a magical thing to do that anyone can enjoy. Everyone has the special power of imagination – that’s all you need. Seeing the idea in your mind and setting the words free, and watching them come alive on paper is an exciting journey, and anyone can be a writer, you’re never too young and you’re never too old. As long as you have something to write with and write on, you can do it anywhere! You’ll be surprised what fantastic adventures and wonderful words are waiting to be released from your head. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never written anything down before, have a go, and let us see your ‘Wonder Words’. Good luck.

Children and young people can submit their work over a four-week period 4th March 2021 (World Book Day) – Wednesday 31st March 2021. For more details see: https://afaeducation.org/wonder-words/

Can you help the Achievement for All Reading and Writing Challenge?

We are asking for your help to help us provide resources to the schools and young people taking part in our challenge. Every penny donated will be used to give children and young people the books and materials they need to take part and have fun whilst laying firm foundations for a reading and writing future life.
