Hi everyone,
I’ll be running the Boston marathon on Patriots Day, Monday 21 April 2025. This will complete the World Marathon Majors challenge to claim the coveted Six Star ⭐ Medal (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York).
My Marathon Journey
I ran my first marathon in 2013 (London). 2013 also happens to be the year the Six Star Medal challenge was born, i.e. when Tokyo joined the programme. However, my 6 ⭐ hunt started almost accidentally, when in 2018 I found myself with ballot places for Berlin and New York. Realising I was halfway through, I decided to take on the challenge and ran Chicago in 2019. I secured a charity spot for Tokyo 2020 (but would not run that until 2023 following relaxation of COVID travel restrictions). It’s been a long journey since 2013, including 14 marathons, pain, sweat, tears, injuries, physio bills, not to mention £$€, but it’s all been worth it, as finally I’m heading to the start line of Boston - yippee!!!!
MDS
To mark this momentous milestone, I’m fundraising for Mothers Daughters Sisters Mentoring Program (MDS), a small London-based community interest non-profit organisation, dedicated to fostering social mobility among young black girls through various mentoring initiatives. All expenses for Boston has been paid for personally so all monies raised will go directly to supporting MDS causes.
You can find out more about MDS here: https://mdsmentoringprogram.org/
I joined MDS as a mentor in 2022 and joined the advisory board this year. I therefore have first hand experience of the difference MDS makes in the lives of its mentees, whether through confidence building exercises or getting them prepped for their first job interviews etc.
Please donate whatever you can spare.
Thank you very much in advance
Abena
