Hi, my name is Rebecca Lammers, and I'm a volunteer for a few different organizations, most notably Democrats Abroad, as the Chair of the Taxation Task Force and as the International Member of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel.
I am not a fan of asking for money, but I've reached the point where I need some financial help to make the upcoming trip to the US possible.
I was elected by Democrats Abroad to attend the upcoming DNC Convention in Chicago from August 19-22 as one of 13 delegates. This is a great honor that I take seriously, and for many, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet leaders within the Democratic Party to talk about and raise awareness of American abroad tax problems. Neither Democrats Abroad nor the DNC provide funding to attend the convention.
The minimum costs to attend the DNC Convention are:
- $2,000 flights
- $585 - 5 nights in the delegate hotel (splitting with 3 other people!)
- $500 - Food/Transportation
I am also going to fly from Chicago to DC in the middle of the DNC Convention to give testimony at the IRS on August 21 for the hearing on Foreign Trusts (regarding non-US pensions and savings accounts). The cost for this flight is $150.
Additionally, I'll be in DC from September 9-13, knocking on doors and speaking to Congressional leaders about building support for resolving American tax issues abroad. Fortunately, I have a place to stay for free, but I still need to cover my flights, food, transportation, etc.
Your donation will go to a good cause as I battle on the frontline for Americans abroad on our tax issues! My modest goal of raising $3,000 will help me out A LOT in making all of this happen and lessen the blow to my personal wallet.
Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far, I appreciate any coins you can toss my way to help in this important tax advocacy work!
