I used to work in social care, working with adults with various learning disabilities. However since Covid I have been unable to work in the social care sector, due to a health condition. I am currently working towards a Social Sciences degree.
I have always wanted to be able to buy an abandoned house and renovate it. Many of us know about the housing crisis in the UK, but many may not know about the hundreds of abandoned buildings, that are left to decay throughout the country.
There are many houses that are left abandoned when the owners pass away and there is no family to pass them on to or the family don't want to take on the responsibility. Local authorities spends millions of tax payers money on building new builds instead of to renovating the stock they are already have first.
My idea/vision is to buy abandoned buildings and restore them. Every effort will be made to contact any living family first. And any belongings clothing, furniture etc will be given back to the family. However, if the family do not want any of the remaining belongings and if anything can be salvaged, the furniture will be restored and either returned to the property or sold, and any profits made will be put back into the project. Any salvageable books will be donated to local schools, care homes or libraries.
Once renovated, these properties will be allocated to those most in need, families, the homeless, refugees, and people with disabilities who have been waiting for years for suitable accommodation.
If the property is to be allocated to an individual with disabilities, there will be consultation with themselves or their carers, as to what is required for adaptations etc.
there will also be holiday properties available specifically for those with learning and physical disabilities.
