When a young babysitter discovers that she has been hired for an ulterior motive, her evening transforms into the darkest of nightmares.
The story follows Ellie, a teenage girl looking to find a job to pay for her karate classes. Ellie gets hired to take care of a young child in a house for the evening. Ellie quickly discovers that this house isn’t all it seems to be, with dark secrets lurking around each and every corner. With terrifying scares and unnerving revelations, Ellie soon realises that it is no coincidence that she has found herself in this house. Tonight, of all nights, Ellie wishes she was anywhere but here….
This film focusses on the themes of trust and betrayal, while being interwoven with the supernatural. This film will make the audience question what are people’s true intentions, and what skeletons are hiding in suburbia's closets?
Here at Team Abaddon, we love horror films. Particularly, old school horror films from the 1970-80s. One key stylistic vision we have is to reintroduce the use of colour back into horror films. Dario Argento’s Suspiria has been a reference point, using unnatural colours of lighting to disorientate and unnerve the audience. We want to include old-school horror themes back into our work too, where we won’t rely on CGI, instead, everything use get to see will be shot in the camera to bring those horrors to life!
We have been inspired by many cinematic horror films, and below you can see where the origin of many of our inspirations have come from!
Callum Germany – Writer, Producer, Co-Director.
“Filmmaking has taken over my life… and I love it! There isn’t a day that goes by, where I don’t hear a song, listen to a conversation, or see something happen and I don’t create a narrative around it! I love to tell stories, and this one is the most I’m most excited for! I love horror and this is an ode to those VHS classics of the horror genre! I want people to enjoy watching this short film, with as much enthusiasm as I did when I wrote it. To make this film a reality, we need your help! I’ll be eternally grateful to anyone who supports us, and I just want to make something great that fans of horror and supporters of ours can be proud of!”
Luca Draper – Cinematographer, Co-Director
“I first began making films from a very young age, often shooting short travel videos, or making movies with friends just for fun. I then decided to take this hobby to a new level when attending college in 2016, as I finally got my first chance to study film and work on my own projects. Since then, I have continued learning about the industry and expanding my knowledge on film. As an avid horror fan, when I first heard the pitch for this script I was instantly intrigued by the concept of Abaddon.
I will be taking on the role of Director of Photography, whilst also co-directing this short film. I have shot nearly all my own projects before and have extensive experience in the cinematography field. I also believe that I have what it takes to assist in bringing this script to life, and I am extremely excited to work on Abaddon!”
Sergei Belov – Cinematographer, Sound Mixer
“Since childhood, movies have been my passion. I had a collection of VHS cassettes that I watched through an old VCR of my grandparents and around the age of 13, I got my photo camera. I took pictures and started shooting the first short videos for myself. Very soon I wanted to make films professionally and I took short courses on introduction to the film industry and then went to university.
Horror is one of my favorite genres. Since I position myself as a cinephile, I have watched and studied a lot of horror films with various movements with their theoretical-historical foundations. Lon Chaney, Sr, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee and Heather Langenkamp are my favourite actors of this genre at different stages of the history of horror cinema. My favourite pictures in this genre are The Unknown (1927), Friday the 13th (1980), The Shining (1980), The Wicker Man (1973), Carrie (1976), It Follows (2014). I will take on the role of the production director. It is incredibly interesting for me to work with this genre for the film Abaddon!"
Lewis Alford - Camera Op, Editor
"I got involved with the project initially just as a Camera Operator for the trailer. Working with the team on set showed me how talented they are, and I practically begged them to let me edit it! Now that we are preparing to shoot the final film, I've been kindly asked back to edit the whole thing. The script is fantastic, the Actors are amazing and the team is so driven that I couldn't be more excited to be involved. As someone with a keen eye for detail, the horror genre excites me as it offers opportunities to make the audience question what they’re seeing and toy with their expectations of what is really lurking in the darkness…
All of the pieces are there for an excellent film, all that is left is your support! Thank you for helping us to deliver Abaddon, a project we are all deeply excited to be involved in."
We have a great cast and additional crew members joining our core group! If you’d like to learn more about this, you can follow us on our social media pages to keep up to date with the latest news!
Filmmaking is a collaborative process, and we can’t make our film on our own. We want to make this film as good as we possibly can, this means we need to invest in talent and locations. Your investment will be vital to allow us to deliver the film we want to make to appreciative audiences, and your help can make that a reality!
Below is how we plan to spend the investment, and you can help make this possible!
On behalf of everyone associated with Abaddon, we are grateful for your support and interest shown towards our film!
