Who are we?
We are Old Whitgiftian RFC, a community rugby club in South Croydon.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The Old Whits scrum machines have seen better years and are no longer safe to use. Our Junior teams are the biggest beneficiaries of a good scrum machine since it allows us to work on technique in a controlled environment, before bringing it into a match or 8v8 environment.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Two of our coaches have ordered and funded the scrum machine to ensure that it is in place for the 2024-25 season. The total cost of the machine is £4,100. Any excess funds raised will be used exclusively to fund boots and equipment for children who require financial support to play rugby.
Community impact
The name of our club originates from our links to the Whitgift school. Today, we are proud to be a club for the whole of the Croydon community whilst also endorsing the values of the John Whitgift Foundation, which are to serve, to care and to excel. We are proud to be affiliated with Tackle London, the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation and Star* Scheme, all of which are doing amazing outreach work in Croydon and beyond.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
