What is it?
An alternative family friendly festive show, 'A Kiss For Cinderella' has been adapted by Bethany Sharp from a lesser known work of JM Barrie (he wrote 'Peter Pan').
What's the play about?
1916, London’s East End, where royal balls are hard to find, and even the Fairy Godmothers have joined the Red Cross. Below the Zeppelins, Cinderella’s kindhearted activities are being investigated by an ‘un-romantical’ Policeman.
Does King Geroge V even know he’s hosting a ball tonight? Who are Cinderella’s unexplained house-guests? Are there enough baked potatoes to go round? All good questions which our definitely un-romantical Policeman means to find a completely un-romantical answer to…
'A Kiss For Cinderella' explores compassion, romance, wartime refugees and the effects of poverty, all told with Barrie’s gentle humour and unexpected storytelling style. Following in the tradition of darker, yet heart-warming, fare such as It’s 'A Wonderful Life', 'A Christmas Carol' and 'The Snowman', this is a drama suitable for all the family, but is suggested for 8 years and upwards.
Where can I see the show?
At the Space Theatre in London from the 3rd - 15th of December 2024! Tickets are on sale here.
You will also be able to watch a performance online! Livestream date and link TBC.
What will the money be spent on?
We need to pay actors, assistant director, designer, stage manager and script consultant to prepare this new play! With 6 actors, this is a larger cast who will bring to life many roles contained within the play.
We already have received some initial donations and are awaiting funding decisions, and hope to receive our share of the ticket income (50% of all tickets go to the Space Theatre), but we need more to make sure our actors are properly paid and the show is the best quality it can be.
If we exceed our target, what will the money be spent on?
With a larger budget, we will be able to design a more ambitious set and will make it easier to source props and costumes suitable for a play set in the past.
Will we make a profit on ticket sales?
No! Even if all our funding bids were successful, we sold out all our shows and made a surplus, any 'profit' will be used directly to the wider aims of our co-producer, the Space Theatre, a small charity (under St Paul's Arts Trust, Reg Charity No. 801587) whose costs are rising as they continue to support early career theatre artists and provide price-accessible theatre and activities for the local community. The Space have given us free rehearsal space, free use of the performance space, and other in kind support for this project to go ahead.
