Hello, my name is Yasmin Akalin, and I live in Romford, London, with my two young boys. I’m writing this with a heart full of hope and a deep wish to create a better future for my children after a heartbreaking year.
In July 2023, our lives changed forever when my husband suffered a sudden and severe brain hemorrhage. He now lives in a full-time care home, and our entire world has been turned upside down. Since that day, I’ve been doing everything I can to be both a mother and a caregiver, supporting my boys while staying close to my husband.
The emotional and mental toll has been overwhelming—but the financial burden has been just as heavy. Rent prices continue to rise every year, and as a single parent now, it has become harder and harder to survive. Finding a job that fits around my caring responsibilities has been almost impossible. I’m doing my best to hold everything together, but I can’t do it alone anymore.
We are now trying to raise £190,000 to go toward the deposit on a home in Romford, close to my children’s school and my husband’s care facility. Staying near both is essential—for their emotional stability, their education, and our ability to remain connected as a family.
This fundraiser is not for the full price of a home, but for the deposit only. Due to my age and personal circumstances, I’m only eligible for a smaller mortgage, which means I need to provide a larger deposit than most buyers. I am prepared and committed to covering the mortgage payments myself—what I need help with is overcoming this major financial hurdle so I can secure a home for my children.
Owning a home would give us the stability and safety we’ve been missing for so long. It would mean no more fear of rent increases or being forced to move again. It would give my children a sense of security, healing, and peace in the middle of everything we’ve gone through.
I’m asking from the bottom of my heart: please help us if you can. No amount is too small. Every contribution brings us closer to a fresh start and a future filled with hope.
