Our Team
Hello, I'm Lisa, Co-Artistic Director of Simply Surreal, alongside Dougal. We are a small, passionate team who love to collaborate. We currently have Becca Lamont as Production Manager and Ben Ramsey as our Dramaturg. If we raise enough support, we plan to bring on a set and costume designer, an assistant director, and offer a learning placement for a student.
Our Vision
At Simply Surreal, Dougal and I are committed to keeping grassroots theatre at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to make theatre accessible to those who may face financial constraints, while telling surreal stories that challenge the "norms" of traditional theatre. We’re passionate about offering opportunities for artists to experiment and grow, providing a safe and creative space for them to thrive. With the support of our community, we can cover our venue costs, pay our talented creative team, and keep ticket prices affordable, ensuring everyone can access theatre at the Fringe.
Our Work
Since 2015, with your incredible support, we’ve been producing new writing and creating bold, original productions. In 2023, we even went on tour across Scotland! We’ve worked with nearly 40 different creatives and auditioned hundreds of talented individuals, building lasting connections and fostering an inclusive artistic community. We’re proud of the opportunities we’ve provided through placements in auditions, rehearsals, and production stages. We love collaborating with others, and with local support, we were able to produce our tour alongside fantastic support acts.

Your donations are vital to helping Simply Surreal continue its journey. Whether you can give £1 or £20, every penny makes a difference. We’re hoping to celebrate 10 years as a company without the burden of serious debt for the next five. Donations allow us to remain true to who we are as a company—one that doesn’t fit into traditional funding criteria but still strives to make bold, accessible theatre.
