Dance Factor: Lincolnshire will seek to engage in excess of 250 young people, primarily from the City of Lincoln, North Kesteven, Boston and South Holland regions, through the medium of dance. Twenty locations will be chosen across these areas for street dance sessions to be delivered. These will run over a period of ten weeks and will be free for young people aged 11-18 to attend. Sessions will be held in the evenings and target anti-social behaviour hot spots and places of rural isolation, aiming to offer a positive activity. Many areas of Lincolnshire are rurally isolated with very little dance activity taking place- young people only see dance on a Saturday evening on TV! Following weekly sessions, groups will compete in one of two semi finals held at a theatre venue, giving all young people the experience of performing in a theatre environment in front a full audience. This will then culminate in a grand final day again held in a professional theatre and comprising of additional professional dance workshops, with the winning group crowned Dance Factor: Lincolnshire Champions for 2015.
We need funding for the following:-
*Facility Hire: three theatre venues to host the two semi finals and the final event, and individual facility hire in all twenty of the locations using premises such as community centres and village halls
*Dance Artists: a minimum of 20 dance artists/teachers to lead dance sessions
*Promotional Materials: flyers, posters etc.
*Trophies and Awards: for the winning group and additional awards for other young people who display qualities such as commitment throughout the project
*Professional Dance Workshops: pay for a professional dance company to lead workshops for young people and also perform at the grand final, offering inspiration and acting as role models to young people
*Filming/Photography: to document the events and film the grand final which each participant will receive on DVD as a memory of their involvement
This is the most exciting and accessible dance project to run in the county, allowing young people to be taught by professional dance tutors and to watch a professional visiting hip hop dance company [usually from London]. This is a unique project, giving young people potentially life changing skills and inspiration to try new things..... and we really need your support!
