Who are we?
Denmead Bowling Club is an important part of village life. We pride ourselves of being an all inclusive friendly Club that aims to provide a sport than can be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical ability. Work started on the club in 1990 and the first game was played in 1992. The original members completing the work themselves funding most of the costs.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The Pandemic dealt us a heavy blow and severely impacted our playing numbers. Our membership total is slowly improving and should help give us better financial stability.Denmead Bowling Club is so much more than just bowling. We have a very active social membership that compliments the sporting element of the club. Having the facilities to attract visiting teams is the next project that we are keen to undertake. To that end we have recently refurbished the clubhouse with the addition of a new improved Kitchen area. We are actively engaged in securing funds to build a new changing room facility at the club that will allow us to provide away teams with a dedicated area. At present we have secured just short of £2000 in fundraising activities over the past six months. We still have some way to go to achieve our goal of £9500. Our supporters in the local area have been so generous offering pledges to help us on our way. Thanks especially extended to Proparts, C and A Land Rover specialists, Speedymech, Barnards Restaurant, Parker’s Hardware Store, The Harvest Home, Niche, Bakehouse, The Coop and many more.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We have recently invested close to £20000 to update the current facilities in the existing clubhouse including a new Kitchen, updated fittings and Decorations throughout. The intention is to provide a purpose built changing room for away teams at the club and make us more attractive for visiting teams on tour. Future projects are new chairs to be purchased this will improve the existing clubhouse facilities.
Community impact
Our membership is not just confined to Denmead Parish. We have playing members that are from other areas as far as Petersfield and Portsmouth. We have one of the best greens locally and hope to host some county finals this year. We pride ourselves as being a friendly welcoming community based club. Outside of bowling which is the main function of the club we have many social events for our members which include themed nights, fun days, quizzes and visits to other clubs. We have recently supported several events in the village run by other local organisations. We are looking to run more community based events in 2025 and beyond. This will raise our profile locally and potentially attract more new members both bowling and social and make us another focal point for our great village.
How you can play your part
There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! We have already secured some very generous offers of help from our local businesses. The bowling community is as strong as ever in the local area and we support each other whenever we can.
2. Spread the word. Please share our project on your social media pages and support us. The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will do our best to promote your business on our social media pages and at the club. We have already received some really generous from our business neighbours.
