Changes to the swim schedule
Against the backdrop of Covid-19 and a scheduled freshet release on Loch Garry on the 13th, we have decided to make the following changes to the swim schedule:
1. We have decided to replace Loch Luichart on 12 August 2020 with Loch Glascarnoch. While the latter is a man-made 7 km long reservoir that resulted from one of the many hydroelectricity schemes post WW2 in Scotland, it is much safer to swim than Loch Luichart. The A835 (Ullapool-Inverness road) runs the full length of the loch and there are many good egress points should I need to exit the water for any reason.
2. SEPA has a scheduled freshet release in Loch Garry starting at 08:00 on the 13th and ending at 04:00 on the 14th. In this process 684,225 m3 of water will be released. So, I will swim Loch Laggan on the 13th instead, and Loch Garry on the 14th.
The new swim schedule is:
9 Aug - Loch Naver (9.5km)
10 Aug - Loch Hope (9.87 km)
11 Aug – Loch Assynt (10.24km)
12 Aug – Loch Glascarnoch (7km)
13 Aug – Loch Laggan (11.33km)
14 Aug – Loch Garry (11km)
15 Aug - Loch Mhór (7.8km)
