Who are we?
Olderfleet Rowing Club are a community based rowing club in Larne, Co. Antrim. We are mixed ability, mixed gender and wildly inclusive. We aim to promote rowing as a sport capable of providing opportunities, community cohesion and huge mental health benefits.
Why are we crowdfunding?
As a rowing club based in Northern Ireland there is a financial imbalance between the funding available to us and the funding available to the clubs we compete against across the island. We are using crowdfunding to level up and allow our junior rowers the opportunity to row using the same equipment as their counterparts at other rowing clubs.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We will use the money raised to purchase "skinny" oars for our crews to use in races. These are commonly used throughout Ireland and beyond, but at present our crews race using the heavier oars designed for club training. With so many talented young rowers in our club we want to give them every chance to flourish.
Community impact
Our little club is an integral part of the community and has members from 10-65 years old. Many of our supporters are parents and grandparents of our rowers who understand the power of sport. We aim to get as many people as possible to try the sport of rowing and be as inclusive as possible. We offer both competitive and social rowing. Our facilities are used by other groups, such as visiting sports teams and even church groups. We have introduced rowing to school groups and seek to collaborate with other local sports clubs and businesses.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
