Build on Books celebrates the incredible achievements of the extraordinary orphans who lost their parents during the Ebola crisis, mudslides, and terrible flooding. These young people are the future of Sierra Leone.
Since childhood, we have helped them to stay in school and provided them with clothes, school uniforms, and encouragement.
This care continues to be important as the students grow up and prepare to leave school for higher education. They all want the opportunity to pay back and help others in Sierra Leone by achieving university qualifications in vital professions.
The scholarship program is well established, but we must continue raising funds so that these and more students can stay in school until graduation. After that, they will have no trouble finding their roles in life and contributing to Sierra Leone's future because they are all so clever and dedicated.
Two of our orphan students are preparing to become doctors; two are in nursing. We also have two in engineering, two social workers, one pharmacist, and one accountant. We even have our first social work BA graduate who is now employed! This year, we have ten students at Njala and Freetown Universities. Build on Books covers all their academic and housing needs for between £1,000 and £1,500 per annum, depending on the course.
Please give what you can and help us continue to give these wonderful young people the opportunities they deserve and might have had if their parents had survived to help them achieve their dreams!
