To raise vital funds for three local charities.

by Lucy Burden in Belfast, United Kingdom

Hi, this is Lucy, Rachel Ben and Liz!

We are so grateful for you checking out our fundraising page!

As a group of friends from Mount Merrion Church (Belfast), we will be taking on the 4 Peaks challenge in June, when we will be climbing (or crawling!) the 4 highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), Wales (Snowdon) and Northern Ireland (Slieve Donard), in just 3 days. Yikes!!

On Thursday evening June 20th, we will be crammed onto a packed minibus to get the ferry to Scotland, with an early start on Friday morning to climb Ben Nevis. Over the weekend (21st-23rd June) there will be a maximum of 15 hours sleep across 3 nights, 20-24 hours of climbing & 46km of walking. We'll spend 18 hours and cover 1,437 miles on the minibus with meals on the go and no doubt a few tears and blisters along the way, but we are SO excited for this amazing challenge and the opportunity to support such worthwhile causes. The three chosen causes are listed below:

NI Children's Hospice. This vital service provides help and support to both children and families by providing specialist palliative care for babies, and children living with life-limiting illnesses across Northern Ireland.

We will be raising funds for this charity in memory of Poppy Ogle, who was a much-loved member of our community in Cregagh, who sadly passed away in May 2022. Poppy's family greatly appreciated the support and care they received from the NI Children's Hospice, as do many other families. The NI Children’s Hospice receives only a small amount of government funding, so they rely on the generosity of the community to help fund their vital services.

Team Dot. This is a family-run charity, who for the past 40 years have been serving the needs of others from the Cregagh estate and further afield. They rely on the generosity of others to help fund the incredible work that they do. How they help others includes, the provision of food parcels, collecting and distributing toys and gifts to vulnerable families at Christmas, providing packed lunches for school children and organising events in the local community.

Mount Merrion Outreach Fund. The outreach fund in our church is a dedicated pool of resources that is used to support various outreach initiatives both within the church community and the wider community. This fund is used to provide food parcels for those in need, organise events for children and families, support staff members who are involved in outreach activities, and other related expenses.

The fund is crucial for resourcing the church's efforts to support and serve individuals and families and to build connections and relationships with the wider community. By having a dedicated fund for outreach purposes, we are able to ensure that our outreach efforts are sustainable and that we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.

If you are able to donate to these three worthy causes, then we would greatly appreciate your support.

Thank you,

Lucy, Liz, Rachel and Ben!

  • PS: All funds donated will be split equally between the three charities named above. The full cost of the trip and any related expenses will be paid for by ourselves.
