Our Story: Empowering Young People Through Sport
Who We Are
Sporting Aid CIC has teamed up with the Herts Sport and Physical Activity Partnership through the Active Local Waltham Cross project, a place-based initiative focused on tackling health inequality and inactivity in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. Together, we are dedicated to creating opportunities for local young people to engage in sports and physical activities, fostering a sense of community and ownership.
Why We’re Crowdfunding
This summer, we’ve been working closely with young people from Waltham Cross who are eager to take ownership of their local spaces. This project was sparked by their own initiative—they began using chalk to draw lines on the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) to create makeshift courts for play. Inspired by their creativity, we provided them with the tools to design a vibrant new colour scheme for the MUGA. Now, we’re choosing the top four designs and putting them out to the rest of the community via our social media pages for a final vote. The winning design will be brought to life on the MUGA, transforming it into a space that truly reflects the spirit and wishes of our young people.
This repaint will be more than just a fresh coat of paint—it will serve as the catalyst for developing a new youth basketball club in the area. The local young people with be trained to take ownership of the club and take pride in their new and improved court, where they will train and play during the spring and summer, fostering a sense of belonging and accomplishment.
How Will the Money Be Spent?
The funds we raise will be used to bring in a professional court renovator to help us repaint the MUGA. Importantly, the young people will be involved in the painting process, ensuring they feel apart of the project from start to finish. This hands-on involvement will deepen their sense of community, ownership and pride in the space they helped create.
What Impact Will This Make?
This project will empower the young people of Waltham Cross by giving them a voice in shaping their community. It will provide them with a vibrant and attractive space to play, grow, and develop new skills. The newly designed MUGA will not only enhance the local environment but also serve as a hub for youth engagement, fostering a sense of pride and community spirit.
