We're still collecting donations

On the 16th December 2020 we'd raised £325 with 12 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has created a very uncertain landscape for  millions of British small businesses, which is going to make it very challenging for businesses to survive including ours. Together we can help as there is so much history and tradition here that you can taste it whilst being part of it and helping to continue it.

Bit of History of the Bun House:

So the legend goes, a sailor went off to war, probably Napoleonic as this Grade II listed cracker was built in 1848, and wrote to his Mother that he would be home for Easter. His dear old Ma baked him a hot crossed bun to mark the occasion. Sadly he never returned. When she died the pub was built on the site of her cottage and named in her honour as builders found all the buns she’d baked and kept every Easter after, still hoping for his return. Every year since a new bun is baked and a Royal Navy Sailor places it in a net above the bar, to add to the collection.

The financial losses caused by the The Widow's Son's temporary closure in March, mean we urgently need to raise £100,000 in order to sustainably continue operating. The money is needed to pay its own various suppliers and landlord as well additional covid 19 secure works in order to adhere social distancing whilst being able to operate.
