The aim is to raise funds for the charity Pug Life to pay vet bills for one of my elderly rescue pugs JanetPumpkin.

Background

Some of you in Downley may know me by sight, particularly on Downley Common, with my elderly rescue pugs, quite often with them in their pugbuggy. I have rescued elderly pugs for many years and sadly they often have a wide range of complex health problems.

I have two pugs now, both elderly. A third pug, Pebbles died just before Easter this year. One of the remaining pugs, JanetPumpkin was severely neglected and was a very frightened and sad little dog when I fostered her.  The charity Pug Life, who rescued her, named her Janet although I renamed her Pumpkin. As the charity maintains a fond interest in her progress she is known as JanetPumpkin!

Over the last few years JanetPumpkin has improved so much and has a good quality of life now. However, she needs surgery to remove rotten teeth together with an additional surgical procedure. As many of you know vet bills are very expensive and therefore I am asking for help to pay JanetPumpkins bill. Her surgery is scheduled for 28th May and so there is quite a small window to raise funds.

The Fundraiser

The fundraiser is inspired by Captain Tom, who most will remember walking around his garden during the Covid epidemic to raise funds for the NHS. Instead of a garden, we will walk around the Commonside part of the common with the pugbuggy and my two pugs, JanetPumpkin and Esmeralda.

My aim is to reach 20,000 steps by walking 4000 steps over 5 days. We completed 4000 steps on Thursday 16th May which seems a tolerable period of time for the pugs to be on the common. I have photographs on my Fitbit watch which shows the number of steps (4000)  just on that walk.

Please help JanetPumpkin to continue to enjoy her twilight years by donating a small amount - she doesnt have many years left - but I hope the surgery will help her to maintain a happy and healthy life. Any excess funds will be donated to the charity Pug Life.

If you see me on Downley Common usually in the morning about 9am please come and  say hello to us!
