History: The Group has been established for nearly 100 years, the earliest record being of a Troop in 1913. The present Group started in 1958 with a Cub pack led by David Popplewell. The Group has flourished since that time, and hundreds of Mersea Islanders and those from surrounding villages have benefitted from it’s activities since 1913.
Present: Mersea's young people have access to a wide range of activities in an inclusive and dynamic programme of Scouting with: a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack, a Land Scout Troop, a Sea Scout Troop and an Explorer Scout Unit. Taking them through from 5yrs 6months until their 18th birthday when they can then become involved in the District Network section for 18-25 yr olds and perhaps even become Volunteer Leaders themselves!
We are fortunate in our location to be able to offer young people access to water sports activities including paddle sports and sailing. This is possible due to our specialised and dedicated volunteer team.
