This is the charity page for the 1st Crystal Palace Scout Group and for the Crystal Palace Panther Explorer Unit for joint activities.
This page is set up to help generate funds for the scout group and for other local community causes that we want to support as part of our badge work.
In April 24 in our Global Issue badge the Explorers have been learning about homelessness and had a talk from the West Norwood based homeless Charity, House the Homeless.
In 2025 we fundraised for the scouts to attend the Essex International Jamboree.
In 2026 the Explorers and the scouts will be embarking on another trip to the Gambia to decorate a classroom block for the Gunjur Upper Basic School. We will be undertaking work with the local Turtle Conservation Trust and cleaning up part of the beach, removing plastics. That plastic will then be recycled at the local Precious Plastics workshop that creates items from discarded plastics that can be used or sold such as turtle key rings, beads to make earrings and rulers to be used in school. These items generate revenue that can be reinvested in education. We will also be helping the Gunjur Project help local girls out of period poverty by providing reusable sanitary towels, made in the Gambia, with the relevant education on how to use them and clean them so they don't miss school while having their periods, due to infection or lack of an alternative. We will help fund the making of the reusable pads for distribution.
