Why are we crowdfunding
My name is Alex Carter and this Gofundme is in aid of my brother Byron Carter.
Earlier this year i was dying in Guatemala, i had a severe blood clot on the brain. The humbling heart warming actions of family, friends, sailors and those who had never even met me, meant that I thankfully made it home to UK to receive the life saving treatment I so desperately needed.
This included my brother Byron Carter who had literally just sailed across the Atlantic, one of his personal dreams. Immediately leaving his boat on arrival and flying over to save my life. His boat was left in the Caribbean to get me home.
Unfortunately after that a Category 5 hurricane “Beryl” struck the island of Carricaou where the boat should have been sufficiently sheltered in the mangroves, however it was far stronger that ones they very infrequently get and devastated the place including sinking his boat, and it was then further looted of all equipment and valuables in the days that followed.
He has not been able to get out there as he has just had a baby boy and of course he has put all his resources into that and presumed that his boat was lost. A group of friends and cruisers where able to refloat her and secure the rig somewhat. But unfortunately the financial situation means the boat has pretty much been written off, the insurance wouldn't cover any of it.
My brother and i built the boat together in Falmouth and he poured everything into it. It was his dream and he hoped one day to teach his son how to sail her. She is a magnificent boat and has so much more to give, we just need that little extra push to get her out. If you can please give something to help this amazing father and brother get Nzuri back.
Anyone who knows Byron will tell you how he has given his time freely to help so many and that he is the kind of guy that does anything for anyone - he is one of the hardest working, most generous people you’ll ever meet. And I owe him my life for what he did earlier this year.
If I am to save my brothers boat, just as he saved me earlier this year, I am going to need all the help I can get. I have some friends that all know and love Bryon, and are very willing to give their time, and whatever they can to help restore his boat to its his boat to its former glory! But if you can spare even just a few pounds, or the cost of a beer to help my brother, like he has helped so many, then I would be eternally grateful for your donation.

How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will be spent on buying new rigging to secure the mast so the boat can be moved to an area outside of the disaster zone for repair

Community impact
Byron a very popular member of the sailing community and many people have learnt to sail with him, he has helped so many people over the years, always giving his time generously. We would like the opportunity to help him in his time of need.
