To repaint our Class 142 DMU back into the distinctive Valley Lines livery carried in the early 2000s and to name the unit after Tom Clift.

by The South Wales Railcar Group in Cynheidre, Wales, United Kingdom

Firstly, this project cannot go ahead without your support, so please consider making a contribution no matter how small.

In February 2021, the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway preserved 142006, which has turned out to be the only Class 142 from the former Valley Lines, Arriva Trains Wales and Transport for Wales fleet to be saved.

Unfortunately the steel bodywork is showing its age and a full rub down and repaint is needed as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration. Now is the perfect time to put the unit into an older South Wales related livery, and Valley Lines is our choice.

The railway's sub-group and principal fundraiser for their DMU fleet, the South Wales Railcar Group want to repaint the train into authentic Valley Lines livery of green, white and red so that visitors from all over the UK can enjoy seeing the livery whilst having train rides at the LMMR.

We also wish to name the unit in memory of the former General Manager of Valley Lines, Tom Clift, who sadly passed away unexpectedly in 2012 at the age of 58. Respected by many in the railway community, Tom was passionate about the lines that our unit served and we feel it fitting to name it in honour of a true railwayman, gentleman and friend of so many.

Our fundraiser will allow us to get the train professionally painted into Valley Lines livery and will also allow us to plan a naming ceremony fitting for such an influential and popular person.

142006 is the only Class 142 that can authentically carry Valley Lines livery and we think that is pretty exciting. With your help we can make it a reality and ensure that the iconic Valley Lines livery can be seen again.

As a South Wales history centric tourist attraction it aligns with our ethos to preserve local and national heritage and history for future generations to enjoy. Please help us to make it happen.
