Two years ago, my younger sister underwent emergency surgery after her right ovary twisted. During this surgery, doctors discovered six large dermoid cysts on her left ovary, which had to be removed entirely. Last October, her right ovary twisted again, but thankfully, she was able to save it. However, she is prone to cysts and there is a significant risk that it could twist again which would result in the loss of her last remaining ovary.
If this happens, there is a very high certainty of her losing her ability to have children in the future.
The consultants have told her that the best chance of preserving her fertility for the future is by freezing her eggs.
However the cost of this procedure is a major financial hurdle.
On the back of The Rossa G4MO’s stepping in to help raise funds necessary for this treatment I am going to run 125 miles over the course of April. This works out roughly 8 kilometres of running a day for the month.
