Challenging myself to run 1000 miles in a year, including my first 50k race and Norwich Half Marathon to support vital youth work in Norwich

by Dan Harper in Norwich, England, United Kingdom

Outstanding youth work transforms the lives of young people at a moment in their journey when such transformations can have an incredible legacy for themselves, their community and a lifetime ahead. The current crisis in youth support scares me, so discovering the outstanding work of the Sprowston Youth Engagement Project in Norwich filled me with hope. I want to make sure they are properly resourced in this crucial year ahead.

Sprowston Youth Engagement Project invites young people to get involved with growing, bikes, learning skills for future employment, though most importantly they invite young people to make youth led spaces possible. The impact they have on the lives of local young people is huge and very personal for every young person who spends time in their projects and spaces.

There is so much that youth services need to adequately support our young people at this crucial moment... this is undeniable. We also need to fight to ensure that the outstanding youth charities and organisations that already exist are properly resourced and thriving. I care about this so much that I'm willing to return to running after several sedentary years to run 1000 miles in a year, including my first 50km ultra marathon (Boudicca Way Ultra) in July 2024, the Norwich Half Marathon in Nov 2024.

Raising this money will make a difference. You can help me reach my target.
