Aim: Sister Therapies aims to provide events and workshops in the community that will help to inspire, encourage, educate and elevate women.
My name is Laura Nxumalo. I have worked in counselling and mental health for roughly 15 years, since being an undergrad university student to being a Masters graduate and building my career as a counsellor. I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and specifically my passion was Psychology, which turned into counselling. Throughout my career I was disappointed to see that not everyone is able to get the mental health support that they may need and I was able to see the inequalities between different ethnic background and socio-economic background which bothered me. I decided in 2024 that I wanted to build a service of my own to help support women specifically because helping women is a personal passion of mine. I have an amazing grandmother who inspired me when I was a teenager that I should start my own clinic, long before I knew what I wanted to do with my life, and I’m constantly inspired and encouraged by my mother who has supported me every stage of my life. I grew up with sisters only and I’ve always had a core group of wonderful friends who are supportive some of whom I’ve known since I was 4 years old, so it felt natural that I give to the community who has always filled me with such love.
I set up this project on this platform in order to raise money to contribute towards our first event that will be hosted to educate, empower and inspire women with regards to looking after own own well-being, mental health and specifically self-care. This event will create the opportunity for women to connect and meet like-minded individuals as well as to learn to better improve their own well-being and to learn more about Sister Therapies other services.
