Connecting Our Community To Nature

Aim: Help build a space for nature, wellbeing, and everyone. We connect people to nature through bees, biodiversity, and moments of calm.

Bees bring us together

We offer members of our community the chance to come and connect with nature by spending time with honeybees. Working with our local Social Prescribing team, we offer small group sessions to people living with social isolation, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health issues that can benefit from interacting with nature and others in our community.

Pollinators with personality

We have recently completed a project with two community art groups. They hand painted panels for the beehives so that each one is a unique piece of art. We are very fortunate to have a community orchard that holds community events and kindly host our hives. This gives us an excellent location in the heart of the community for our Social Prescribing sessions.

Our hope and plan is to offer long term involvement with the bees for the people referred to us by the social prescribing team by creating a community apiary. They will be able to tend and care for the bees as part of a community volunteer group and help provide the support needed for those that are referred for future sessions.

A Buzz with Purpose

Our projects are designed to promote:

• Pollinator conservation in a climate-and habitat sensitive area.
• Creative expression and visibility for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
• Community connection through hands-on, meaningful activity.
• Help with wellbeing for people by connecting to nature through mindful sessions in small groups at the hives.

Our Plans

We need your support to create a community apiary by:

• Improving access, so that we can be open to everyone.
• Add hives of differing types to meet all needs.
• Provide equipment and safe storage for use by volunteers.
• Collaborate with other community groups on joint projects.
• Provide access and sessions for other community groups of all types and ages.
