Aim is to give the young people more opportunities in scouting in this deprived area to purchase hammocks and tarps for outdoor camps.

New stretch target

Our members come from a low income and recognised deprived area by the Government listings, we would ideally like to have a stock of hiking boots, waterproof coats and rucksacks that the young people can borrow. This will assist them to take part and enjoy a number of outdoor activities that scouting offers.

Some three years ago 1st Clayton Brook Scout Group was slipping into oblivion. We had very few young people attending, only six Beavers, six Cubs and no Scout section. The Group was in a dire financial state with virtually no money and if not for the Leaders donating their own money the Group would have gone out of existence. They had little or no equipment and what they had was old, worn out and almost totally useless, now over the past year we are moving forward with replacements. Not only have we replaced a fair amount of camping equipment but our group has grown from 18 members to 54members as we have become more active with having the equipment which is giving ALL new opportunities.

We are a non-profit organisation and any funds raised go back into the running of the group. We want to continue to grow our Scout Group and to maintain and improve the facilities on offer to ensure a long-term legacy for future generations. We strive to offer the same opportunity irrelevant of family income and therefore do rely on fundraising to keep the subscriptions to a reasonable cost. Fundraising allows us to cover the cost for renting our meeting places and the running costs of the Group rather than passing on these costs to the parents.

This year we are continuing our focusing on improving the variety and quality of activities we can offer now and to secure these for future generations. Camps and Outdoor activities are a big part of our ethos, developing skills such as team work, organisation, problem solving, independence to name but a few.

Our aim is to puchase 6 off Hammocks and Tarps, this will give the young people a new experience of being outdoor camping, and the cost is £1000.

With adding to our camping equipment  we will be in a strong position to continue to offer and expand the opportunities we, as a Scout Group working in a low income and a deprived community, can offer to local children of Clayton Brook for many years to come.

Please help support us to help keep scouting in our community for future generations to enjoy.
