We are a special school that caters for all needs and abilities from moderate learning, severe and profound multiple difficulties. Currently we have 133 pupils ranging from 4 to 19.
The school delivers the N.I curriculum with a heavy emphasis on life skills and sensory development through specific individualised sensory diets. We want to be able to help them do this.
The outdoor area will provide sensory experiences through chimes, plant aromas, visual stimulus and the opportunity to be at one with nature.
Parents, pupils and staff from the area including my son, his siblings, friends and myself will be able to access this during school hours and the Youth Office in the evening with children from the local community, with a long term view to introduce programme's to local schools.
On a daily bases we have been dealing with issues around mental health with our young people. We feel this sensory experience will benefit not only our sensory seeking pupils but also those in need of support.
We will use the money to purchase the relevant equipment, which is very expensive, for the needs of the children.
