A three year fundraising project to create two outdoor learning areas within the school grounds to give children the opportunity in outdoor spaces to interact socially with peers, develop fine and gross motor skills, develop the ability to take risks and allow children to explore, challenge and develop children’s imagination. The play areas will be fully accessible for pupils of all ages and abilities.
The aim of this project is to give the pupils of the school the opportunity to have easy access to outside spaces that allow them to develop in the areas described above in ways that only outdoor play allows.
We know from observing children at school that many of them now suffer from not having enough free time outdoors and certainly outdoor play has declined in recent years due to the effect of electronic devices. This is having a huge impact in the classroom environment as pupils do not necessarily have the skills physically and mentally to cope with the normal school routine. When children are allowed free play opportunities it is amazing the vast number of skills that are developed naturally - these can include speech and language, cooperation, teamwork, empathy, fine and gross motor, socialisation, communication and core muscle development.
We are hoping that this project will have a very positive impact on the local community and that all children from the area will benefit whether they attend the school or if they are in local groups that can use the school grounds e.g. brownies, cubs, scouts. Members of the outer local community will also benefit as other local schools that visit us will have access to the equipment too.
If we were luck y enough to be awarded this grant we would purchase the canopy as part of this project. This would give us a great foundation to start from and allow us to continue our fundraising efforts for the other items.

Hamstreet School Association

The Hamstreet School Association is a small group of hardworking parents who pride themselves on raising funds for a much loved rural primary school. This year we have a clear plan to fund raise to develop outside areas to aid the development of our pupils and create a space that can be used 24/7.
