Hello, we are Erin and Fi, co-founders of Our Little Globe,™ a travel box company for kids. We are on a mission to inspire kids to explore the world with our fun and engaging products.
Our aim is to raise enough money to attend two major trade shows this year, in the hope we can increase our overall customer base.
About our boxes
Our boxes are themed to countries around the world. They are packed full of engaging fun facts that can be found in our illustrated maps, letters, recipes, stickers, posters and craft activities - all of which help young explorers discover new places.
How Our Little Globe works
At the moment we have just under 100 subscribers from both the UK and abroad. Each month, our subscribers receive a country-themed activity kit delivered to their door. We are steadily growing our subscription base, but we would also like to explore opportunities on the high street AND partnerships with travel agencies.
How many country-themed boxes do you have?
Currently we have 14 individually curated boxes. We produce a new travel box on average every four weeks. We started off with our 'world-travel' series' which takes kids to Spain, India, the Philippines, Peru, New Zealand, Iceland, Canada, Kenya, Italy and Greece. We are now we are in the middle of our 'family favourite' mini series, which so far includes, Paris, Cornwall and Galway, next stop Dubai!
What is special about Our Little Globe?
The ethos of Our Little Globe is to teach kids about the different cultures, traditions and tastes found around the world. We sew positive messages into each of our activity boxes so kids grow up to explore, celebrate and understand how other people live their lives. That's why we think that our message #differentisbrilliant is an important one for future generations to embrace.
Our Little Globe's successes so far...
December 2017; We complete the Prince's Trust Enterprise Programme and receive a £5,000 loan. We launch Our Little Globe with an easy-to-navigate e-commerce website, social medial channels and a hardboard suitcase box filled with tales of new places and activities to keep little minds busy!
April 2018; We secure our first PR opportunity with the Manchester Evening News, the UK's largest regional newspaper. This leads to an increase in subscribers as well as securing Our Little Globe with an upsurge in social media engagement and online PR.
May 2018; We win Theo Paphitis's Small Business Sunday Award on Twitter. This increases our social media engagement and opens up a wealth of information and opportunity to Our Little Globe.
June 2018; Re-vamp of our website. We plough much of our profit into upgrading our customer journey on the website.
December 2018; We engage with a social media influencer called @luxefamily5 on Instagram who is travelling around the world with her children. She is working on a special project in Kenya - we agree to pay a portion of our Christmas profits to her Kenyan endeavours. Her followers engage with us and we double our subscriber numbers and sell out of our 'Christmas Around the World' boxes.
January 2019: We get a phone call on New Years Eve to ask if we would like to feature on a BBC News feature for small businesses. As Erin is away, Fi does the interview and secures us coverage on the BBC Morning show on January 3rd! It is great start to the year and we are full of excitement!
February 2019; We attend the Small Business Sunday event with Theo Paphitis and his team. Theo announces plans to sponsor 12 small businesses to attend the Autumn Fair 2019 - the largest retail buyers event in the UK. We set to work on our application form!
June 2019; After a long application process, we finally hear that Theo and his team will sponsor Our Little Globe to attend the Autumn Fair...
Here's what we want to do
We want to attend the Autumn Fair in September and the World Travel Market Trade show in November. The Autumn Fair will give us the best chance of selling our boxes to retail buyers from across the UK and Europe.
The World Travel Market will put us in touch with travel agencies who want to collaborate with a brand that completely aligns with their marketing messages of exploring the world.
If you won the stand at the Autumn Fair, why do you need support from a crowdfunding campaign?
Whilst we won the opportunity to attend the fair, we need to 'dress' the stand to make it attractive to passing retail buyers. We also want to introduce some new products and to make some changes to our products so they will work in a high street/retail environment.
For example, our most pressing issue is that as a subscription box our packaging is currently colourful padded envelopes - this will not work if we sell our Travel Boxes as one-off gifts. We also need to up-grade the packaging on our Christmas Around the World Box as it not quite suitable for retail either.
Then it's the boring but essential things like securing transport to get all of our stock to Birmingham and staying in a B&B. We want to do everything as economically as possible - but equally we know this is a BIG chance for us so we want our products to be just right.
Here's a sneak peak of the new products we intend to trial;
"My Travel Box" A box packed with fun facts, crafts and recipes to allow mini adventurers to explore a mystery country.
"My Letter Box Friends" A pack of illustrated letters, mini craft activities and recipes to encourage world exploration, reading and writing for mini adventurers!
"Christmas Around the World" An upgraded version of a product we launched late last year. Contains letters from new friends who explain how they celebrate Christmas where they live. Think Christmas on the beach in New Zealand and New Year parties in Japan!
Ok...and what about the World Travel Market?
Over the last year we have worked on small-scale partnerships with travel agencies who want to advertise their holiday offers to our subscribers.
We also know that given the content of our boxes would make an attractive proposition to travel agencies who want to provide 'added extras' to their holiday-makers. We desperately want to attend the show to give us the maximum opportunity of networking with interested parties in a short space of time. The cost of a stand alone starts at £4,300 but we are aiming to try and get a late deal closer to the start date. Any money that we raise will go towards paying our stand fees.
Donate to our crowdfunding campaign and give us the lift we need to expand our very special business...OR if you'd prefer not to donate, help us share our story by sharing our crowdfunding project on your social media channels...find us at @ourlittleglobe
